Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Wasabi Walk ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Wasabi Walk mobile app, the event portal, and this website (together, the "Service"). Wasabi Walk is a team-based walking challenge: organizers create events and players' daily steps add up toward team leaderboards.

Health data, in short: your step counts are used only to run the walking challenge you joined — to total your team's steps and show leaderboards. We never use health or fitness data for advertising, and we never sell it.

Information we collect

Step and activity data

With your permission, the app reads your daily step counts from Apple Health (HealthKit) on iPhone or Android Health Connect. We read this data only; we never write to your health records. Alongside each day's steps we store the local date, your time zone, and the platform/source, so totals are attributed to the correct day of the event.

Registration information

When you register for an event you provide a display name (nickname) and any fields the organizer configured — for example your office or location, used to form balanced teams. Organizers choose these fields, so they vary by event.

Organizer account

Organizers sign in with their email address using a passwordless email link. We use the email to authenticate you and to associate the events you create with your account.

Feedback and contact messages

If you send feedback from within the app or use the contact form on this website, we receive the message you write and, if you provide it, your email address so we can reply.

Technical information

To operate the Service we process a small amount of technical data: an anonymous identifier that links your app installation to your event participation, your time zone, your platform, and app version. Our infrastructure provider also processes standard technical data (such as IP address) as part of delivering and securing the Service.

How we use your information

  • To run the events you join — register you, assign balanced teams, total steps, and show leaderboards.
  • To show encouragement features such as cheers and milestones within your event.
  • To let organizers manage their own events.
  • To respond to your feedback and contact messages.
  • To keep the Service secure and working, including preventing abuse and spam.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.

Health and fitness data

Step and activity data read from Apple Health or Android Health Connect is used solely to provide the walking-challenge features described above. Consistent with Apple's and Google's health-data policies, we never use this data for advertising or marketing, never share it with third parties for their own purposes, and never sell it. You can withdraw access at any time in your phone's health settings, which stops further step syncing.

What is visible to others

Within an event, other players can see competition information such as your display name, your team, your step contribution, and recognition you give or receive. Organizers can see the registration information for their own events. Fields an organizer marks as private are not shown to other players. Your data is scoped to the event you joined and is not shared across unrelated events.

How information is shared

We do not sell your data. We share it only with service providers that help us run the Service, under their terms:

  • Google Firebase / Google Cloud — hosting, database (Firestore), authentication, and serverless functions that store and process the data described above.
  • Google reCAPTCHA / Firebase App Check — used on the contact form and in the app to verify requests come from real users and to block automated abuse. This involves Google collecting information subject to Google's privacy policy.

We may also disclose information if required by law.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as you participate in an event and as needed to operate the Service. You can remove yourself from an event at any time using Leave event in the app menu; this deletes your participation and step data for that event and recalculates the leaderboard without you. To request deletion of other information, contact us at hello@wasabiwalk.com. Residual copies may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten.

Your rights and choices

  • Withdraw health access at any time in Apple Health or Android Health Connect; step syncing then stops.
  • Leave an event to delete your participation and step data for it.
  • Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. We honor applicable rights — just reach out.

Children

The Service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age set by your local law. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

International users

We operate using Google Cloud infrastructure and may process and store information in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including access controls and request attestation. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
